Of all the components in the electrical waste stream, CRT’s (Cathode Ray Tubes) are the most dangerous to our environment.

CRT’s are in older televisions and computer monitors. Figures show we dispose of around 40 million per year.

CRT’s contain Arsenic, Cadmium and approximately 2Kg of Lead. The latter being the most dangerous of these as it does not naturally breakdown. Our bodies cannot get rid of lead in our system as quickly as it is taken in. This leads to a build up of toxins in our bodies.

If CRT’s are not disposed of correctly, these toxins can leach into our soil, water systems and food chain. Plants and animals have the same problem as us with disposing of lead in their systems. Therefore as we consume these in our natural diet the problem magnifies in our bodies.

Lead affects almost all organs in the body. Most commonly it is attributed to miscarriages, brain damage, kidney damage and damage to the nervous system.

When disposing of CRT’s you need to use a company like Recycling Your IT who can recycle these items in an Eco-friendly manner. Assuring that nothing ends up in landfill.
